Christmas Benefit Concert 12.21.2010

If you aren't doing anything December 21, 2010, go check out this dope event! Not only will you be seeing some cool acts, but you will be participating a great event with a cause. You don't have to pay to get in, all you have to do is bring a new school supply or toy to get in. How difficult is that? This benefit concert will be held at The Alexandria in L.A. with DJ Reflex and DJ DrewByrd on the tables. As well as Dom Kennedy, J*Davey, Dam Funk, Overdoz, and Polyester hitting the stage. You know you wanna go :)

DOM said he'd be deliverin' somethin' every Wednesday; last week he introduced himself with This is DOM Kennedy; Life as I Know It. this week he tops it with visuals for what seems like EVERYONE's favorite song off that From the Westside with Love, Locals Only.

this video, i mean, short film made me appreciate DOM & his music that much more. from the French credits & the subtitles, the girl is a WIN (i love her eyes), DOM is lookin' mighty cute himself & the THIRD verse, where did that come from?! it's so dope! (& makes me wonder why it never made it on the project). all around, this short film is a CLASSIC!

Okay... I like the video, BUT i wish I had seen more sports cars... at least ONE sports car lol i don't think that four door is considered a sports car, just sayin'

Though I'd LOVE to hear what Jenbunnie has to say about this video. She may be Dom's biggest fan, but she seems to be his biggest critic at the same time :) Check the video for yourself :)

here's DOM Kennedy's video for 1997. now we all know i LOVE me some DOM (i love sayin' that) but after viewing this video a couple times, i don't know what i think of it.
i like the concept of the video but i think it should've have gone with another song, that's just my opinion.

i often read & hear how DOM respects & wants to work with Quik so i'm sure DOM will never forget the feelin' of havin' to open for DJ Quik, one of the greatest west coast rappers (i speak for Mikee & myself when i say the greatest) & bein' on the same stage as him.
i'm kinda salty i didn't go to this show, for one because Dom opened but second because if you should know somethin' about Quik is that he puts ON at shows!

okay, i'm a week late BUUUUT i had to put in my two cents on this remix.
now, the original "She Needs Me" is one of my favorite tracks from Kendrick but this remix is eeeehhh.
now we all know how much i love me some DOM & i think everythin' he jumps on, he's always on point but for some reason, this one fell short to me.
i listened to this song about 7 times in a row (a little advice i got from Mikee lol) & although i don't hate it, i can't get into it like the original one.

Reflection Eternal at Bubble Gum in Blu Monkey Lounge

The album release party for Revolutions Per Minute by Reflection Eternal (Talib Kweli & Hi-Tek) was..... Hotter than a muthaf*cka! Figuratively and literally. There were sooo many people inside the lounge, it was insane! And on some truthful shit, they needed to turn up the a/c in that beeetch earlier, cuz it was HOT! I got a lil' sweaty up in there, which lead my hair to turning into a mess : no lie and i know for sure other people were sweating up a storm! hahaha Regardless of the heat, it was a fun night. If you weren't there you definitely take an L! Some of L.A.'s finest were there Tuesday night. Not only Talib Kewli & Hi-Tek were there, but i ran into U-N-I, Dom Kennedy, Evidence, Krondon, and i saw a few others there that night. Even though i was told that me and my friend, evelyn, were in our "own world" that night we had a lot of fun. Though we may be in our own world, if you come by and say "hi", you'll definitely be welcomed into "our world" lol Here's a video of Reflection Eternal performing "The Blast" and a few pictures from Tuesday night, shot by the homie Boogie.

so i FAIL for not postin' this yesterday when Dom FINALLY decided to drop it but it's here!!!!

From the Westside, With Love.

The best part of watchin’ someone like Dom is bein’ able to watch him grow musically, progress his craft & accomplish what he set out to do & can I mention he’s easy on the eyes & them pearly whites ;]
His reason for releasin’ ‘From the Westside, With Love’ on the 25th was because 2 years ago, he introduced himself & 25th Hour to us. If you listen to 25th Hour & have followed him since, you can hear & feel the growth he took & goes without sayin’, this is HIS BEST WORK to date!

It amazes me how these upcomin’ LA artist do all this on their own with no record deal. Just them doin’ music that they LOVE because they LOVE it. It speaks volumes as you will hear with this project! This project shows if you do somethin’ with love, you can never lose.

With that bein’ said, here’s a quote from Dom at his listenin’ party describin’ his project:

“you get 100 emails you’ll focus on the 1 person who didn’t like u, instead of focusing on the 99 who give a fuck about you. So I just look at it like if I care about the people that got me here, we could get real far.”

So do yourself a favor & download this project because word on the street is u’re gonna have to pay for the next one.

since today is Dom Kennedy Day, yes I made up the holiday & for the record, the chix are wearin’ their Dom pin just to celebrate ;]. (judge us!) I thought we’d throw it back to a video from that 25th Hour!
The first time I was introduced to him & his music was at a show where if I’m correct, he started with this song, kinda dope to see how far he’s come musically.

I, along with JenBunnie, was one of the lucky ones to have heard this project a few weeks ago at Dom Kennedy's listening party. I seriously can't wait for it to drop so that EVERYONE can finally listen to what Dom's been talking about. Production is sick, lyrics are heart felt. Few more hours until March 25th, then we can all bump From The Westside, With Love.
