Throwback Thursday

I know I know, I wasn't born when this music video came out, but having cousins that grew up in that decade, it helps knowing a bunch of the songs from that time.

And while we're at that, click here for a "remake" from FunnyorDie with Wayne Brady and Mike Tyson with a special guest.. The parody pwns the original only because Mike Tyson's dancing is COMEDY! (I'd post the video, but their website's being a douche to me right now)

Nottz & Asher Roth feat. Colin Munroe– Dontcha Wanna Be (My Neighbor)

AWESOME track coming from Nottz & Roth. Sampling one of my favorite shows to watch when I was a kid.

Listen to Dontcha Wanna Be (My Neighbor)

Yo Gotti feat. Wale, J. Cole, & Wiz Khalifa - Look In The Mirror remix

So here's the "Look In The Mirror" remix if you haven't heard it yet. Yo Gotti getting these three guys on the remix, good idea. J. Cole, Wiz Khalifa, & Wale all did their thang on this remix. Fave verse outta the three has got to be from..... J. Cole. I'm sure ya'll thought I woulda said Wiz :) but nah, J. Cole did it for me. Which verse is your fave? Take a listen.

Last night's show at Crazy Girls was reviewed in LA Weekly. It seemed like last night's show was one for the books. Congrats to The 87 Stick Up Kids, TiRon & Ayomari, and Freddie Gibbs for getting nothing but great reviews.

Read about it here.

Blu - My Boy Blu [Update]

shouts to the homies of http://watdadickens.com/ :)

"Just re-upped the video with fixed audio and the color corrected." - BJ (Yes that BJ) of WatDaDickens

Ciara - Speechless

This video that Ciara put out is WAYYYY more tame than the video to "Ride"... Maybe cuz she actually wants to release her album already... When I first saw this video, it reminded me of Janet Jackson's "Love Will Never Do Without You" music video.... why? maybe cuz of the black and white theme, shadowing effect, and outfit... idk you can compare the videos for yourself. Check 'em out:

AMP gets to know U-N-I

My fave duo, U-N-I, are interviewed by AMP. U-N-I describe their music and what gets them hype prior to performing on stage. They also tell us they've got a mixtape cooking for us, which I'm very excited for. Check out the interview:

Weezy - I am Not A Human Being

The video goes GREAT with the rock beat of the song. idk what it is about him... maybe it's something only me and my cousin @n16ole will understand ;) lol check the video. ill, iLL, ILL!!!

Ludacris feat. Lil Scrappy - Everybody Drunk

i don't know what to say about this video o.O ... Ummm... booze, lots of "bling", half naked b*tches, AND cars. I say, good equation for a true rap video lol there's also a couple of cameos in the video.

Devi Dev & Terrace Martin - Here, My Dear

Terrace martin and Devi Dev present us their free EP Here, My Dear with tracks from artists like U-N-I, Kendrick Lamar, Wiz Khalifa, Dom Kennedy, and more. Below is the tracklist.
Download it here.

Michael Buble - Hollywood (Video)

I don't stick to one genre of music and this blog isn't solely based on one genre of music (although it IS heavily based, I know that). Anyway, one artist I absolutely love and would love to see in concert one day is Michael Buble. And above is his latest video/single "Hollywood". Enjoy! :)

Sarah Palin Gets Booed at Dancing With The Stars

Sarah Palin went to last night's taping of Dancing With The Stars to support her daughter, Bristol Palin, and well, she didn't get a very warm welcome from the audience. Apparently when host, Tom Bergeron, was getting ready to interview the Alaskan politician she was getting boos. However, Tom Bergeron cleared it up on Jimmy Kimmel last night saying that the boos were for the judges who gave Jennifer Grey a lower score than she derserved (I wouldn't know because I didn't watch last night's episode).

Personally, I wouldn't doubt if the boos were for Sarah Palin, but I won't give in my two cents because politics it's a touchy topic that I refuse to get into unless it's with people who have the same political views as me.

Anyway, watch the video for youself and you decide whether it was for the Sarah Palin or the judges.

New "Land Of The Kings" Snapback

Thurzday of U-N-I, tweeted this not too long ago about a new snap back coming out soon.

Be on the lookout for when it comes out!

Heels vs. Flats: Men Don't Notice... apparently

"Teeter-totter all you want, but men apparently don't notice when a woman wears
high heels,
Time magazine reports. Researchers at the UK's Northumbria
University studied men's reactions to women in heels versus women in flats and
found no difference. Time writes, "The researchers wanted to know whether the
changed posture that comes with high heels -- longer legs, accentuated rear and
tilted torso -- get noticed by men." Guess not!
Orange News has quotes from Dr. Nick Neave who led the study
as part of a larger project about attraction and movement. Neave said, "Women
are spending money on high heels, which can be dangerous, presumably to make
themselves look good and add to what nature has given them," adding, "Everybody
is attracted to somebody else and making relationships is very important to
humans. Making key relationships and having children are some of the most
important decisions people will make. But scientifically we know very little
about this."
According to the Daily Mail, Neave believes that movements
like dancing can serve as indications of a male's "reproductive quality."
I find this article completely stupid because I'm sure I can find at LEAST 5 guys who think a woman in heels is a lot more attractive than a woman wearing flats. I'm not one who loves to wear heels, but seriously?!?! Is there anyone who agrees with the article because I'm still a little baffled by it.

Terrace Martin feat. U-N-I & Charlie Wilson

Here's a leak off of Terrace Martin & Devi Dev's upcoming project Here, My Dear. This is such a good song to vibe to! The easy beat is def a song to play for your girl :)

Listen to Special

Kendrick Lamar - O(verly) D(edicated)

Where do I start with this kid? I remember getting a hold of his EP in the beginning of the year, thinking "who the hell is he? whatever, I'll give him a try." Ever since then, I've believed, along with a few of us on dix&chix, that he is one strong lyricist to go up against! Well here he his now giving us some more good music to listen to.

I'm not over....

The more i tune into KROQ (106.7 fm), the more i'm finding songs i just can't get enough of. I haven't given KROQ my full attention since I was in middle school. Now that I'm tuning in more, I'm liking what I hear and the more I remember a lot of the songs they play. One song that i can't get enough of is "I'm Not Over" by Carolina Liar. love, love, love this song!

"I'm not over you just yet
Cannot hide it
You're not that easy to forget
I'm not over"

Bruno Mars Arrested For Drug Possession

Ain't that a beauty up there?

Source: mtv

"...the singer/songwriter wound up with the wrong kind of attention early Sunday morning in Las Vegas when he was arrested on suspicion of narcotics possession.

According to the Las Vegas Review-Journal, the 23-year-old singer (born Peter Gene Hernandez), who is preparing to drop his full-length solo debut, Doo-Wops & Hooligans, next month, was arrested at 2:40 a.m. on Sunday, after security at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino confronted him in a bathroom and allegedly found him to be in possession of narcotics.

At press time a spokesperson for the Las Vegas Police Department could not be reached for confirmation of the arrest or for information on what drugs Mars is said to have possessed at the time of his arrest."

WHY, BRUNO MARS? WHYYYY?! I had a secret crush on you when I first saw you in B.O.B's "Nothin' On You" music video, then I proclaimed my love and support for you when "Just The Way You Are" came out... and then seeing you live at The Grove on Friday just confirmed why I was so smitten over you, and now you give me this?!? And you look like THAT in your mug shot? Come on now. Why couldn't you have done this AFTER you debut album came out?

Ugghhh, aside from your stupidity, I still think you're one talented mofo and I'll still support you. But you have two more chances. If you strike out two more times, then you're just a lost cause...

And a tip for you, if you're gonna do drugs, at least be more careful about it and don't do it in a public restroom.

(**Disclaimer: I am in NO WAY supporting his drug use. I don't do drugs. Never tried and I have no interest in them. If you do, then by all means, that's your life. I have no say in it unless you bring me into it... Now as you were.)

**UPDATE**
source: TMZ
"LVMPD officials state a bathroom attendant at the Hard Rock Hotel informed security "there was a man in the bathroom stall with possibly a man using drugs."

According to the report, the attendant went on to say he could "see a male in a striped red shirt with a baggy of white powder substance."

Once law enforcement officers made their move -- cops say they asked Bruno to "give over whatever narcotics he had." According to the report, Bruno then "pulled out a white powder substance, which was consistent with cocaine, from his left-front jeans pocket."

Cops say Bruno --aka Peter Hernandez-- "admitted he did a foolish thing and has never used drugs before."

The report shows ... once the substance "came back positive for cocaine," Bruno was shipped off to the Clark County Detention Center and booked for possession of narcotics."
I still ♥ you, Mr. Hernandez, but saying that's your first time using drugs?? I call BS.

I don't get it...

.. it's like "the bump" during the Disco era, but dry humping in weird places rolled into one. That's the best way I can describe this new dance craze in South America.

And LMFAO at the girl in purple. She's in pain throughout the whole video. lol

Cee Lo Green - Fuck You (Video)

Fun fact: this was taped five minutes away from my house!

Mayer Hawthorne - No Strings

Mayer Hawthorne came out with this track called "No Strings". The feeling I get from this song is so suave. He makes one night stands sound so cool. haha

Bruno Mars - Soul Culture Interview

Oh Bruno Mars, I think I'm in love with you... all 5'2" of you! lmao

Btw, if you're not busy today, head over to The Grove at 5:30. He'll be having a free acoustic show .

DNEZ in Sound in The Signals

Sound In The Signals is an interesting blog to look at. They've been around for a while, but this is the first magazine issue for Sound in The Signals and DNEZ was cool enough to make the cover :) DNEZ talks about his fashion and music influences, as well as things we should be one the look out for with his brand and The TreeHouse Club. Mother Charged for Teaching 2-year-old Daughter to Smoke Weed

I wish I could say this post is a joke, but I can't. A mother from Cincinnati, Ohio has been charged for giving her daughter pot and teaching her how to smoke it.. To make it worse, the mom actually taped her daughter doing it. WTF?!?

The mother, 21-year-old Jessica Gamble, is now facing up to 11 years in jail.

Willow Smith - Whip My Hair

"Hop up out the bed turn my swag on pay no attention listining to them haters cuz we whip em off and we aint doing nothing wrong so dont tell me nothing, i'm just tryna have fun..."

We all know what Will Smith and Jada Pinkett-Smith are about. Now their 9-year-old daughter, Willow Smith, is about to join the ranks of the entertainment business along with her parents and brother, Jayden. Jay-Z signed her a deal to his Roc Nation. Listen to her song "Whip My Hair" to get a feel of what's in store for us to hear.

**(Their oldest son, Trey, may not have caught the entertainment bug, but don't doubt him. He plays on his high school football team. I'm telling you the Smith family can do no wrong)

Fat Beats LA Last Week

We mentioned last month that Fat Beats in LA & NY were closing (NY already closed down). So "to mark the end of an era, come celebrate the last days of Fat Beats during Hip-Hop's Last Retail Jam - 7600 Melrose Ave." Come out during the days mentioned above to celebrate and watch a few artists make their last appearance in Fat Beats before it's closed.

Diggy - Airborne (Mixtape)

About a month ago, Diggy released "Oh Yeah". Now you can listen to the whole mixtape. I haven't listened to it yet, but if it sounds like anything from "Oh Yeah" then I'm sure it shouldn't disappoint much.

Drake's Mom took Marriage News Seriously

source: PEOPLE

Ay yi yi, Drake. If you're gonna joke around, it'd probably be best if you tell your mom about it.

Apparently, Drake's mom thought he really did get married to Nicki Minaj.
"My mom was actually like, 'What happened? How did you elope?' " the rapper, 23, told PEOPLE at the MTV Movie Awards Sunday. "But we were just joking around. I never thought it would get so out of hand."

Good job, Mr. Graham. Maybe you should have thought this through before joking around like that.

VMA Performances

source: mtv

This year's VMA performances came with a few hits and misses. (warning: this is all just my opinion, so if you get mad just remember to agree to disagree)

  • At the pre-show, Nicki Minaj performed "Your Love" and premiered a new song "Check It Out" with Will.I.Am. What can I say about Nicki Minaj? No seriously, what can I say about her? She's weird. : And I have no idea what the hell Will.I.Am was thinking painting his face black and keeping it that way the whole night. [[VERDICT: MISS]]
  • Eminem opened up the show with his singles "Not Afraid" and "Love The Way You Lie" and surprise surprise (not really) Rihanna joined him on stage even though she claimed that she wasn't going to attend the awards show. His performance was pretty good. I didn't hate it, but I didn't love it. [[VERDICT: HIT until Rihanna opened her mouth]]
  • Justin Bieber did a medley of 3 songs ("U Smile", "Baby", & "Somebody To Love"). I actually liked his performance (it's the teeny bopper in me. haha). Make fun of him all you want but he can sing, dance, and get more girls than a lot of 20+ year olds can lol. [[VERDICT: HIT]]
  • Next up was Justin Bieber's mentor, Usher. He sang "DJ Got Us Fallin In Love" & "OMG". I like Usher, but this performance was nothing surprising. Plus his hair was very reminiscent of his "You Make Me Wanna" music video. [[VERDICT: MISS]]
  • Florence and The Machine was my favorite performance of the night. I thought everything about it was awesome. The choreography and the way she used the stage was really creative. [[VERDICT: HIT]]
  • Oh Taylor Swift. I'm a fan of Taylor Swift (judge me) and obviously this song was about Kanye (if you didn't get that, slap yourself), but I've seen her do this before. I was also a little bothered by her bare feet... maybe because I just hate feet, I'm not sure. [[VERDICT: MISS]]
  • Drake's performance was cute. haha. I think I got more excited because Justin Timberlake introduced him. xD Anyway, Mary J. Blige was on point. I liked it overall. *this was my dad's favorite performance of the night. He kept praising Mary J. Blige's voice and Drake's and Swizz Beatz showmanship. By the way, Drake's outfit was finally not a miss. I'm glad he didn't wear his usual all black with white sneakers get up. [[VERDICT: HIT]]
  • B.O.B with Bruno Mars and Hayley Williams (and later Paramore) all pretty much did a medley of "Nothin' On You", "Airplanes", and "The Only Exception". I thought B.O.B. was going to be on there throughout it all, but it seemed like Paramore had a longer set. Plus side, I love Hayley Williams' voice. I don't like Paramore, but that girl has a really nice voice. [[VERDICT: HIT/MISS; I'm still not too sure]]
  • Linkin Park was my second favorite performance. Them performing at the Griffith Observatory was the perfect setting for their song. I don't think these guys age cuz they all looked pretty amazing. I'm just saying. ;) [[VERDICT: HIT]]
  • Lastly, Kanye West closed the show premiering his new song "Runaway" with an appearance by Pusha T. I hate Kanye as a person, but as a musician, he's a beast. It was interesting to say the least, but I really liked his song. This was also my dad's favorite performance. In fact, my dad was already singing along to the chorus the second time around. haha [[VERDICT: HIT for the most part]]
Overall, this year's VMAs performances were mostly hits and will have America talk about it for a few more days. Also, it looked like that night's House Artist, Deadmau5, kept the crowd entertained so kudos to him.

List of VMA Winners

Last night was the 2010 MTV Video Music Awards. Overall Chelsea Handler did a pretty good job hosting considering I'm not a big fan of hers. There weren't a lot of "shockers" like everyone expects at the VMAs, but then again how can you top Kanye's infamous interruption last year? Anyway, here's the full list of the winners last night with Lady Gaga taking home majority of them (whoop di freakin' do da).

[Sidebar: everyone looked pretty spiffy except for Lady Gaga - I honestly have no idea why she's considered a fashion icon - and Ke(dollar sign)ha's stupid "trashbag" dress. Can someone say trying hard?]

Drake on performing for the 2010 MTV VMA

Taylor Gang or diieee!

music video for "Damn It Feels Good To Be A Taylor" by my favorite, tatted up, black boy, Wiz Khalifa ;)

btw, I'd still like to give a shout out to my boy @Svperbesque for getting Wiz Khalifa to sign that for me. He already knows how much I appreciate it :D

Rick Ross and two remixes...

Teflon Don, @RickyRozay, fat muthasucka... best known as Rick Ross, recently put out a remix to Miguel's "All I Want Is You" and Jazmine Sulliven's "Holding You Down". I'm feelin' the remixes like no other!

Click here to listen to both mixes

you ain't fu/king tonight...

... if you play THIS SONG in the whip on the way back to your crib! lol Cool song, but definitely not a form of foreplay fellas. Try incognito songs by like the Stylistics, Stevie Wonder, Sam Cooke, Marvin Gaye, Lionel Ritchie, Isley Brothers, Luther Vandross, Boyz II Men... just to name a few. Just thought I'd share :)

And speaking of the Isley Brothers... Ron Isley recently linked up with Lauryn Hill for a remake of "Close To You", a song popularized in the 1970's by The Carpenters. Great remake in my opinion.

Listen to "Close To You" - Ron Isley feat. Lauryn Hill

Don't act like a B*TCH!

here's a video for "Bitch" by E-40 & Too Short. Basically watching them perform the song live on stage. Nothing fancy.

Dumped!

As if you all haven't heard already, Brandon Jennings, of the Milwalkee Bucks, got dumped... via FACEBOOK! lmao what a way to say bye to your significant other! lol His ex-girl, Brittany Bryant, made sure to tag his name when she wrote that out lol too funny! Apparently she's a UCLA honors student... love the way she spelled "congraDs" and her use of "there" (<-- btw, that was sarcasm). In the end, putting it on FB like that... not too classy, BUT good job to her for dumping his ass! to read and see more pics, check out mediatakeout

a joke!?!

One night I was flipping through channels and I came up on this commercial. I TRULY thought this was a complete JOKE! People dancing around in the snuggies, really!?! To make it worse, they were dancing to the macarena AND at the end of it they "raised the roof", c'mon now! Are they tryna sell the snuggies to people back in the mid-90's!?! Ummm, no. This commercial had me crackin' up and confused all at the same time just 'cuz i thought it was a joke. BUT i have to admit, snuggies are comfortable... i have a pink one :)

Grafik - My Aura

Check Grafik's video for his song "My Aura". Concept of the video goes good with the song. I feel like there were too many shots of the girl in yellow. Not that I'm hating or anything, but I felt like it was unnecessary. check for yourself.

Today's "Throwback Thursday" is dedicated Rich Cronin, member of LFO, who died of Lukemia yesterday at the age of 35. This is a sad day for all the fellow teeny boppers of the late 90s. =(

Bruno Mars - Just The Way You Are (Video)

About a month and a half ago I wrote about Bruno Mars' song when it was first released. Now he has a pretty cute video to go along with the ultra cute song. The video in it's entirety isn't too bad. I wished it would have been sweeter and show more chemistry between the two, but it's still cute enough to watch. The whole animation with the cassette tape's film definitely saved the video, though.

I think it's funny how Bruno Mars never stood up. Maybe because he's probably shorter than her (he's only 5'2". I'm gonna blame his Filipino side. haha)

B.O.B's latest single is now accompanied by this video with a cameo from Paul Iacono, or better known as RJ Berger.

That's a No No

Amerie Ameriie decides to go BLOND! That's a no no. She was so much prettier without that wretched blob on her head.

Kendrick Lamar - "H.O.C."

Kendrick released a track called "H.O.C" off his upcoming project O(verly) D(edicated) set to come out September 15. I don't smoke, so I'm pretty much oblivious to what "H.O.C." means (#naive). =X If you know what it means, can you please fill me in? THANKS! ;) haha

Nike Patenting Self-Lacing Shoes

Source: msnbc

Yup, you heard right. Nike is patenting self-lacing shoes similarly to Michael J. Fox's character, Marty McFly, in Back To The Future 2.

"The automatic lacing system provides a set of straps that can be automatically opened and closed to switch between a loosened and tightened position of the upper. The article further includes an automatic ankle cinching system that is configured to automatically adjust an ankle portion of the upper."

There's no definite release date for when this shoe will be released, but it's in the works. I wouldn't doubt people lining up for these shoes the day it comes out (if they have some cute ones, I would consider buying me a pair). It seems as if Back To The Future 2 really IS what our future will turn out to be... One invention at a time. o.O

J. Cole - Villematic

J. Cole recently released this song which will be off a mixtape he has in the works. He grabbed the instrumental off Kanye West's "Devil In A New Dress".
